A Message from the Co-Presidents
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that it is already 2010 and the beginning of a new semester!
The LFHS music department just wrapped up a very busy semester, which went smoothly in large part due to our wonderful parental support. We would like to thank all of the parents who helped out this fall with the numerous activities involving the LFHS music department. The fall semester included the band’s participation in the football games, the fall concert series and two LFHS/middle school festivals!
Congratulations to the 17 students who auditioned for and were chosen to participate in the Illinois Music Educators' Association District and All-State concerts. We had students chosen from our chorus, band, orchestra and percussion programs. Thank you to the music directors for coaching these students and for encouraging them to try out for this wonderful opportunity.
This year’s Citrus Sale was very successful. Thank you to Sally Pickell for all of her hard work in organizing volunteers and coordinating the sale. The earnings from the sale will help fund the chorus trip to Greece over spring break.
The annual Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success this year! We would like to thank everyone involved in this enormous undertaking, especially this year’s co-chairs, Anne Santee and Diane Rener, volunteer coordinator Jennifer Leventhal, and ticket chair Sarah Lamphere. We would also like to recognize Liz Jacob for all of her work in Publicity for Applause and also for the wonderful article she wrote for the Lake Forester about the Spaghetti Dinner, which appeared the Thursday after this year’s event. Finally, this event would not have been a success without the numerous parent volunteers who baked, ushered, sold tickets and assisted in the dining room! Thank you so much for helping out! The music directors worked tirelessly on this event and the highlight of the day was the beautiful music. The two Holiday Concerts were very special and those who attended the Spaghetti Dinner were entertained by numerous wonderful ensembles. What a treat to get to see our kids performing for friends and family in this venue.
We would also like to recognize Steve Douglass’s telecom department and the wonderful job his student Max Moore did on this year’s Applause video. His hard work is evident in the professional video he produced (watch it here). We are lucky to have students such as Max available to us!
Finally, thank you to the music directors for providing our kids with such a quality music education. We are genuinely lucky to have such a phenomenal music program at LFHS.
Looking forward, Applause is accepting grant applications at this time. Detailed explanations of the grant guidelines as well as grant forms are available here. The spring grant application deadline is February 26, 2010.
Don’t miss the LFHS Jazz Festival scheduled for Thursday, February 18th at 7:30 p.m. in the Raymond Moore Auditorium.
