grants and scholarships
Applause offers a number of types of grants and other financial support. Some are available to individual students, whereas others are for the benefit of a whole ensemble or group of students.
Discretionary Grants
These are one-time grants to pay for special equipment or an event that would not normally fit into the Music Department budget. Applause will accept requests for discretionary grant funding submitted by Music Department staff, ensembles, students, or parents. If submitted by students or parents, requests are subject to review by the Music Department staff. Grant requests must be submitted formally on an Applause Grant Request Application (see links below).
"Special grants" are requests for amounts less than $1000, which will be addressed with funds available in the annual Applause budget. These requests should include non-recurring items such as guest conductors, commissioned music, and master classes (service-type grants); guest performers, workshops, and music outings (event-specific-type grants); and special equipment and/or seed money for new activities.
"Major grants" are requests for amounts greater than $1000. These will be addressed with funds as available in the Applause budget, and/or Applause has the option of entering into a special fundraising drive to support a major equipment or program initiative.
Grant applications will be considered twice during the Applause Board term,
once in the fall and once in the spring. Deadlines for requests will be posted as soon as they become available. Grant requests received at other times may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Summer Scholarships
Applause summer scholarships are intended to encourage and support music student participation in organized summer music camps and programs. All current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who participate in LFHS Music Department ensembles or classes, and who plan to attend a music camp or program in the summer, are eligible. Students must apply for the grant in spring and then submit evidence of payment in addition to a brief essay descriing their camp experience at the end of the summer. Applications will be made available in spring.
Senior Scholarships
Applause awards Senior Scholarships for Excellence in Music in the amount of $500 to a few outstanding graduating seniors each year. The scholarships are presented at the annual all-school Honors Night in June. Applications will be available from the CRCC office at school before Spring Break.
