LFHS Music Awards Banquet May 21As a celebration of the 2011-12 year in music, we have planned a music department awards banquet which will include the traditional Grammy presentation to the Seniors. The LFHS Music Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, May 21st. All music students and their families are invited. Awards will also be given to band, orchestra and choir students at the Banquet. The Banquet provides the opportunity to recognize and honor our amazing music students and all of their achievements for the 2011/12 school year. Dinner will be served and is $5 per person. Spring Tour Abroad, a Student PerspectiveBy Matthew Koch, Class of 2014 The band trip to Paris, Brugges and Amersterdam this year was one of pleasant surprise, triumph, new friendship, exploration, cultural exposure, defying the norm and incredible musicality in even more incredible venues. The trip started with a three day stint in the magical city of Paris, which some consider the music capital of the world. Saturday started bright and early with the cheery call of a United flight attendant asking if you wanted coffee or tea. The heavy fingers of jet lag soon dissipated as 92 Americans stared out the windows of their respective coach buses, piling against each other to get pictures of the three hundred year old (or older) buildings surrounding them on both sides. ... [Read more!] The Perfect Gift for Band StudentsIntroducing the newest painting by favorite Lake Forest artist Mark McMahon: “Scouts Spirit Under the Lights”  Applause is pleased to partner with LFHS Boosters in offering prints of this painting to music patrons. This piece was completed by Mark McMahon to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of LFHS. A portion of the sale proceeds benefit Applause. See attached order form. Any questions? Major Applause Events and ActivitiesCitrus Sale (September 15-November 1): Applause assists students who are going on the annual spring trip abroad to earn money for their trip by organizing the Citrus Sale. Spaghetti Dinner (December 11): The centerpiece of the musical year, the Spaghetti Dinner is held in conjunction with the Holiday Concerts (Band and Orchestra in the afternoon, Choral in the evening). It’s a very festive day you won’t want to miss, and a perfect event to share with grandparents and friends. Grammy Night (May 21): This is the time to say goodbye to our departing seniors and celebrate their four years of music at LFHS. The students "roast" the teachers with skits and songs, the teachers poke a little fun at the students in return, and a few tears are shed during the traditional student-produced slide show. Receptions: Applause provides complimentary receptions after each concert, as well as after the Honors Competition. Volunteer bakers are always needed for these events!
